Defending champions the Flying Eagles of Nigeria began their campaign at the 2026 West African Football Union, WAFU B Under-20 Championship on a winning note after beating arch rivals, the Black Satellites of Ghana 4-2 in Group B on Monday in Yamoussoukro, Cote D’ivoire.
Nigeria took the lead in the sixth minute through Olayemi Ayinla.
Ghana responded well and got an equaliser in the 23rd minute courtesy of Mohammed Zaidan.
The Flying Eagles regained control of the game in the 30th minute through Oraro Isaac.
Five minutes later, Nigeria went 3-1 up through Muiz Adeleke.
The Black Satellites refused to give up ,and pulled one goal back when they were awarded a penalty which Kelvin Nkrumah converted..
However, Adeleke sealed the victory for Nigeria when he completed his brace by calmly converting a late penalty to wrap up an impressive 4-2 win.
The result gives the Flying Eagles a perfect start to the campaign as they continue their quest for a third consecutive WAFU B Under-20 Championship title.
They will face the Sparrow Hawks of Togo in their next game on Thursday.
