The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons says it has secured more than 20 convictions for Sexual and Gender-Based Violence offenses and rescued over 3,000 victims in 2026.
Head of the Press and Public Relations Unit,Vincent Adekoye, disclosed this in an interview on Monday in Abuja.
Adekoye said three of the convictions resulted in life imprisonment, adding that most of the cases involved rape.
He said NAPTIP had expanded its response to Sexual and Gender-Based by strengthening collaboration with the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and relevant ministries, departments and agencies.
Vincent Adekoye urged perpetrators to desist from the crime, saying offenders could be prosecuted under laws including the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act and Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act.
