Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi scored his first goal for new club Coventry City in their 4-2 victory over Plymouth Argyle in a Carabao Cup second round tie Tuesday night.
Awoniyi finished superbly just three minutes into the encounter after receiving a pass from Caleb Yirenkyi.
Two minutes later, the Nigerorced grabbed an assist as he teed up midfielder Jack Rudoni for Coventry City’s second goal.
Oliver Irow got Plymouth Argyle back into the game in the 21st minute before Xavier Amaechi completed the comeback when he made scores 2–2 in the 54th minute.
Coventry City responded strongly afterwards and went back in front in the 67th minute through Ephron Mason-Clark before Victor Torp sealed victory after converting a penalty in the 78th minute toake final scores 4-2.
Elsewhere, Brentford secured an emphatic 6-1 victory over Birmingham City.
Callum Wilson opened the scoring in the sixth minute while Birmingham equalized through Demarai Gray in the 28th.
Aaron Hickey restored Brentford’s lead in the 39th minute, followed quickly by Nathan Collins doubling the advantage in the 40th.
Mikkel Damsgaard added the fourth in the 70th minute, before substitute Igor Thiago who came on for the injured Wilson, scored in the 73rd.
Collins struck again in the 77th minute to complete his brace and cement Brentford’s dominance.
In another encounter, Nigerian defender Ola Aina played 61 minutes for Nottingham Forest as Leeds United secured a 2–0 win over them, with Daniel James scoring in the 50th minute.
James Justin added a second in the 75th minute, ensuring Leeds advanced comfortably with a controlled and confident performance.
Hull City and Stoke City played out a tense 1–1 draw, with Róbert Boženík scoring for Stoke in the 39th.
Kieran Dowell equalised for Hull just before halftime, and the match eventually went to penalties where Hull triumphed 5–4 in the shootout.
In some other matches, West Ham United thrashed Southampton 4-1 while Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 away from home and Ipswich Town triumphed 3-1 over Leicester City
