PETER OBI WELCOMES SCRUTINY, ASKS UNN TO RELEASE ACADEMIC RECORDS

IN ANOTHER DEVELOPMENT, The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has asked the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), to make his records available for public examination upon any legitimate request.

Obi made the request in a post on X on Tuesday, saying he was prepared to face the level of scrutiny expected of anyone seeking the highest political office in Nigeria.

His statement comes amid legal action instituted by a former national publicity secretary of the Labour Party Abayomi Arabambi, against UNN, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the West African Examination Council (WAEC) over the alleged refusal to release Obi’s credentials.

Arabambi filed three separate suits before a Federal High Court in Abuja, alleging that Obi’s name appeared differently on documents submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and educational authorities.

He also claimed to have separately approached the three institutions seeking the release of Obi’s certificates, but said his requests were denied.

In his post, Obi said he had no objection to the release of his academic records.

The former Anambra State governor further directed other institutions he attended within and outside Nigeria to release his records in accordance with applicable laws and procedures.

According to him, he believes in transparency and accountability, especially for individuals seeking public office.
