INEC WARNS INSECURITY COULD DISRUPT ELECTIONS

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has raised concerns about how insecurity may pose a major threat to the January and February 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, shared the concerns in Owerri during the sixth Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers.
The electoral body says it is working closely with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure that no eligible voter is prevented from exercising their right due to security challenges.
He noted that vote-buying has evolved beyond polling units, stressing the need for improved intelligence gathering to curb the practice.
Amupitan, however, assured Nigerians that the January 16, 2027, presidential and National Assembly elections, as well as the February 6 governorship and Houses of Assembly polls, will be credible, free, and fair.
