UNCERTAINTY OVER NDC LAWMAKERS’ STATUS SPARKS HEATED DEBATE IN EDO ASSEMBLY

The uncertainty surrounding the political future of some members of the Edo State House of Assembly took centre stage today as lawmakers sharply disagreed over whether members elected on the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress should continue to enjoy full legislative privileges following last week’s Federal High Court judgment deregistering the party.

The controversy erupted after the member representing Egor Constituency, Hon. Natasha Osawaru, formally notified the House of her decision to defect from the People’s Democratic Party to the NDC, prompting lawmakers to differ sharply on whether the matter should even be entertained.
