The High Court of Justice in Kogi State has dismissed reports claiming it ordered the deregistration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement, the Court’s Chief Information Officer, Saqeeb Saeed, described the reports as false and misleading, stressing that the court had never handled any case relating to the registration or deregistration of the NDC or any other political party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The court also denied that the viral report originated from the Kogi State High Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It expressed concern over the use of the photograph of the Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Josiah Joe Majebi, alongside that of former Governor Yahaya Bello in the social media post, saying it created the false impression that the alleged ruling came from the state judiciary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The court said although it does not usually respond to social media misinformation, it was compelled to issue the clarification to protect the integrity of the judiciary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The clarification follows an earlier ruling by the Federal High Court in Lokoja, which set aside its previous judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to register the NDC, after finding that interested parties were not joined in the suit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NDC has since appealed that decision and maintains that it remains a legally recognised political party pending the outcome of the appeal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
