Super Falcons star midfielder, Esther Okoronkwo says she is focused on helping Nigeria succeed at the 2026 Women\u2019s Africa Cup of Nations rather than chasing individual accolades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Okoronkwo was crucial for the Super Falcons at the last edition of the WAFCON, scoring three goals, and providing six assists in six appearances but did not receive any individual award at the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The AFC Toronto star also lost for the 2025 CAF Women\u2019s Player of the Year award to Morocco captain Ghizlane Chebbak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a chat with Completesports, Okoronkwo said her focus is on repeating history and retaining the trophy not chasing individual honours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite her preference for team\u2019s success however, the 29-year-old star says she still has a lot to prove at the upcoming tournament as she wants to show people what she can do after her recent injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She explained that she has spent much of her career injured and has not always been able to show her full ability and she is happy she showed a bit of that at the last tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Super Falcons will kick off their Group C campaign against the Scorchers of Malawi at the Al Madina Stadium, Rabat, on Tuesday, July 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They will take on the Copper Queens of Zambia in their second group game on the 1st of August before confronting Egypt in their last group game on the 5th of August as they bid to retain the WAFCON title.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
