First HoldCo has emerged as Nigeria’s most capitalised banking stock, overtaking Zenith Bank and Guaranty Trust Holding Company following a strong rally in its share price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Market data on Monday showed First HoldCo’s market capitalisation rising to about four point eight trillion naira, slightly ahead of Zenith Bank at four point seven nine trillion naira, while GTCO ranked third with a market value of four point seven one trillion naira.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The development reflects growing investor confidence in the financial holding company, driven by record earnings, improved financial performance and increased investment by businessman Femi Otedola.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First HoldCo’s shares gained ten per cent to close at one hundred and five naira fifty kobo after the company released its half-year twenty twenty-six financial results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company reported a pre-tax profit of six hundred and fifty-three point five four billion naira for the first six months of the year, representing an eighty-three point five per cent increase compared to the corresponding period in twenty twenty-five.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second-quarter pre-tax profit also rose to three hundred and thirty-two point four two billion naira, reflecting continued growth in earnings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company also disclosed that billionaire investor Femi Otedola increased his total stake in First HoldCo to twenty point four per cent as of June 30yt, 2026, reinforcing investor confidence in the group’s long-term prospects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest ranking places Stanbic IBTC Holdings fourth with a market capitalisation of two point six five trillion naira, followed by United Bank for Africa at two point one four trillion naira, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated at one point five six trillion naira, Access Holdings at one point three nine trillion naira, and Fidelity Bank at one point three eight trillion naira.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Analysts say whether First HoldCo retains its position as Nigeria’s most valuable banking stock will depend on its ability to sustain earnings growth, improve asset quality and meet the higher capital requirements under the ongoing banking sector recapitalisation programme.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
