The Black Queens of Ghana began their campaign at the Morocco 2026 Women\u2019s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON with a 2-0 win over debutants, Cape Verde in Group D on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Black Queens opened scoring in the sixth minute through Doris Boaduwaa who was assisted by Portia Boakye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They doubled their lead in the 54th minute when Cape Verde defender Eleia Vieira turned the ball into her own net.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cape Verde, playing their first ever match at the continental finals, ended the contest with 10 women after Klaydiana Borges was sent off in stoppage time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the other Group D encounter, the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon beat Mali 2-1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ngah Manga scored both goals for Cameroon as they extended their dominance over Mali to four wins and a draw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Indomitable Lionesses opened scoring in the 14th minute when Galatasary star Manga, showed excellent composure to bring down a lofted pass into space with her chest before calmly finishing at the near post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mali equalised in the 30th minute after Cameroon goalkeeper Michaely Bihina brought down A\u00efssata Traor\u00e9 while attempting to gather a through ball inside the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A penalty kick was awarded after a lengthy VAR review and Traor\u00e9 stepped up confidently to convert it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cameroon got their second goal in the 72nd minute after a VAR review resulted in another penalty which Manga scored to complete her brace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Action continues at the 2026 WAFCON today with the second round of matches in Group A.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senegal who lost their first game 2-0 to Algeria will take on Kenya who were thrashed 4-0 by hosts Morocco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the other group game, the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco will battle North African rivals Algeria with both sides hoping to consolidate top spot<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
