Nigerian Afrobeats stars Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, and Temilade Openiyi, also known as Tems, have secured nominations at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The nominations were announced on Tuesday ahead of the awards ceremony scheduled to take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burna Boy received two nominations for his collaboration with Colombian singer Shakira on the official 2026 FIFA World Cup song, Dai Dai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Grammy-winning singer is nominated in the Best Collaboration category, where he faces Clipse, Kendrick Lamar, Pusha T and Malice for \u201cChains & Whips\u201d; French Montana and Max B for \u201cEver Since U Left Me\u201d; Madonna and Sabrina Carpenter for \u201cBring Your Love\u201d; PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson for \u201cStateside\u201d; and Teyana Taylor and Lucky Daye for \u201cHard Part.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDai Dai\u201d also earned Burna Boy a nomination in the Best Latin category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He will compete against Anitta and Shakira, Bad Bunny, Fuerza Regida, Karol G, Rosal\u00eda featuring Yahritza y Su Esencia, and Ryan Castro, Kapo and Gangsta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tems, meanwhile, received a Best R&B nomination for her collaboration with British rapper Dave on \u201cRaindance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The duo will compete against Bruno Mars\u2019 \u201cI Just Might,\u201d Chris Brown\u2019s \u201cIt Depends\/Obvious,\u201d Justin Bieber\u2019s \u201cYukon,\u201d Kehlani\u2019s \u201cFolded,\u201d and Mariah the Scientist and Kali Uchis\u2019 \u201cIs It a Crime.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Madonna leads the 2026 nominations with 11 nods, while Taylor Swift follows with nine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notably, the Best Afrobeats category, which featured in previous editions of the awards, is not included in this year\u2019s nominations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
