{"id":746,"date":"2026-07-02T10:42:49","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T10:42:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kufmtv.net\/?p=746"},"modified":"2026-07-02T10:42:49","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T10:42:49","slug":"governor-okpebholo-welcome-return-of-benin-bronzes-says-artefacts-belong-to-obas-palace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kufmtv.net\/index.php\/2026\/07\/02\/governor-okpebholo-welcome-return-of-benin-bronzes-says-artefacts-belong-to-obas-palace\/","title":{"rendered":"GOVERNOR OKPEBHOLO WELCOME RETURN OF BENIN BRONZES, SAYS ARTEFACTS BELONG TO OBA&#8217;S PALACE"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"638\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/kufmtv.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/gov.-okp.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-748\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kufmtv.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/gov.-okp.jpg 638w, https:\/\/kufmtv.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/gov.-okp-300x226.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 638px) 100vw, 638px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Governor Monday Okpebholo has described the return of the Benin Bronzes as a historic landmark for the Benin Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Governor said this on Wednesday when he received the Director-General of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM), Olugbile Holloway, alongside the Consul General of Switzerland in Lagos, Conny Camenzind in Government House in Benin City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The governor commended the Swiss government and other stakeholders involved in the restitution process, describing the return of the artefacts as a significant moment in the history of the Benin Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Okpebholo while reflecting on the 1897 Benin invasion said the removal of the artefacts, was driven by the global recognition of the greatness of the Benin Empire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier, the Director-General, National Commission for Museums and Monuments.(NCMM), Olugbile Holloway, said the visit was to strengthen collaboration with the Edo State Government and mark another step in the return of Benin artefacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking on behalf of the Swiss Government, Consul General Conny Camenzind described the restitution as a major milestone in the relationship between Switzerland and Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A total of 23 objects were repatriated by the Swiss museums including 18 Benin Bronzes and 5 regional artefacts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Governor Monday Okpebholo has described the return of the Benin Bronzes as a historic landmark for the Benin Kingdom.
