Nigeria’s foreign exchange market recorded a significant improvement in liquidity during the first half of 2026, with daily trading volumes approaching one billion dollars on several occasions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Analysis of data from the Central Bank of Nigeria shows the naira appreciated from one thousand, 431 naira to the dollar at the beginning of the year to one thousand, 376 naira at the end of June, representing a gain of about three point eight per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official foreign exchange market also recorded more than 31 billion dollars in transactions between March and June, with a record one point 82 billion dollars traded in a single day on May 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Market analysts say the stronger turnover reflects growing confidence in the official foreign exchange market and has improved price discovery while reducing pressure on the naira.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The increased liquidity has been attributed to higher foreign portfolio investment, stronger inflows from oil and gas exporters, diaspora remittances and increased participation by commercial banks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Experts, however, caution that sustaining the gains will depend on continued foreign exchange inflows, stronger oil production and healthy external reserves.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
