In Rivers State, No fewer than 23 inmates in the State correctional centres have regained their freedom following a jail delivery exercise aimed at decongesting custodial facilities.
Eighteen inmates were freed from the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre, while five regained their freedom from the Ahoada Correctional Centre.
The Chief Registrar of the Rivers State Judiciary, David Ihua-Maduenyi, said the exercise was carried out on the directive of Chief Judge, Chibuzor Amadi.
The judiciary described the exercise as the first phase of the 2026 Prison Decongestion Programme and said periodic case reviews would continue.
