Rescue efforts have intensified at the scene of a collapsed three-storey lodge in Oko, Anambra State, where the body of a female student has been recovered.
Officials say the body of a young man has also been located beneath the rubble but is yet to be retrieved.
A combined team including the Red Cross, NEMA, SEMA and the Fire Service is using heavy-duty excavators to search for anyone still trapped.
SEMA’s Acting Executive Secretary, Ndidi Omega, confirmed the death and said three injured persons had earlier been taken to hospital.
Police have appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information as the search continues.
