The Deputy Team lead of the National Economic Council (NEC) implementation monitoring committee (IMC), Busayo Awotunde has commended governor Monday Okpebholo for the reconstruction of the Oba Market affected by fire in June 2020 and a subsequent fire outbreak in October 2025.
Speaking to journalists at the Conference room of the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning at the Secretariat along Sapele road in Benin City, the deputy team lead NEC IMC Busayo Awotunde said the team is in Edo State for tracking the level of implementation of NEC resolutions and Legacy projects in the state.
She said the committee is aware that the state is doing a lot in terms of projects.
The Commissioner for Budget and Economic planning Dr. Elizabeth Ebosele said the Edo State government recognizes that effective implementation of national economic policies and resolutions require strong coordination, prudent resources management, transparency and continuous monitoring.
Dr Ebosele said the government of senator Monday Okpebholo has remained committed to translating government policies and programmes into tangible outcomes that improve the lives and livelihood of our people.
The Oba market is been rebuilt following major fire outbreaks in June 2020 and October 2025 that left hundreds of traders displaced.
The market has been transformed into a mall-like structure featuring over 450 open stalls and lock-up shops, a mini fire station, a sick bay, and a crèche.
Edo State governor Senator Monday Okpebholo led administration embarked on the reconstruction of Oba market following his campaign promises under the national growth framework, ensuring original occupants return to a secure trading hub that will positively affect the economic and commercial life of Edo people.
