
Defending champions, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Burkina Faso in the final of the WAFU B Under-20 championship on Sunday in Yamoussoukro, Cote D’ivoire.
The result means Burkina Faso secured the sole qualification to the 2027 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana which served as qualifiers for the 2027 FIFA Under-20 World Cup which will be co-hosted by Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
Burkina Faso took control of the final from the opening whistle and scored three goals within the first 15 minutes.
Alassana Bagayogo, Asharaf Tapsoba, Issouf Dabo, Fadil Barro got the goals for Burkina Faso while Abdulmuiz Adeleke scored Nigeria’s consolation goal.
Victory for Burkina Faso means they complete a double over Nigeria in the competition having beaten the Flying Eagles 2-0 in the group stage
