The immediate past Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, has kicked against his impeachment, insisting that he voluntarily resigned from the position.
Agbebaku said his resignation letter, dated August 17, was personally handed to Majority Leader Sunny Ojiezele before he addressed the House on the floor.
Lawmakers had, during plenary on Monday, converted the resignation into an impeachment, with the Majority Leader alleging it did not follow due parliamentary procedure.
Agbebaku maintained there is documentary and video evidence of his resignation, describing the impeachment as an inaccurate rewriting of events.
He said he remains a duly elected member representing Owan West Constituency and committed to the All Progressives Congress.
