The Federal Government has appealed to the Benin-Asaba Expressway Concession Company (BAECC),the concessionaire handling the reconstruction of the Benin-Asaba Highway to allow the Federal Ministry of Works to bring in competent contractors to execute the project, citing their lack of capacity.
Minister of Works, Engr.David Umahi, made the appeal on Wednesday at a stakeholders’ meeting in Government House, Benin City, convened to address the persistent gridlock and complaints from motorists along the 125-kilometre road.
K U FM’s Nlebedum Asagwaram report that the Minister of Works, said the concessionaire had failed to add value to the project, 16 months after the ground breaking ceremony took place on March 25th 2025.
