Nigeria’s Flamingos extended their winning run at the WAFU B Under-17 Girls Cup in Yamoussoukro to four matches when they defeated hosts, Côte d’Ivoire 2-0 on Thursday.
The Flamingos scored early in the first and late in the second to secure victory at the Lycée Scientifique Stadium to clinch the win.
Star player, Oluwakemi Adegbuyi opened scoring in the fourth minute after the Flamingos forced Côte d’Ivoire to lose possession just outside the penalty area.
A swift passing move followed, with Sakirat Sarafa delivering a low cross into the box for Adegbuyi to score her third goal of the tournament.
The girls managed by coach Akeem Busari doubled their lead in the 83rd minute through substitute Pattra Oparanmegwa, whose long free-kick from inside Nigeria’s own half caught the Ivorian goalkeeper off guard.
The win means the Flamingos consolidated top spot in the competition with a perfect 12 points from four matches.
They will face Togo on Sunday in their final match of the tournament.
