AKWA IBOM SHUTS 326 ILLEGAL SCHOOLS

Now to Akwa-Ibom where the State Government has shut down more than 326 illegally operating schools, with over 15 more closed in an ongoing enforcement exercise for the 2026/2027 academic year.

Commissioner for Education Ubong Umoh said the crackdown targets schools operating without approval, in unauthorized locations, or under substandard learning conditions.

He said inspections found teachers with only primary or secondary qualifications, and some schools running all classes from Primary One to Six in a single classroom.

Umoh said proprietors who reopen shut-down schools are handed over to police for prosecution and urged parents to verify approval status before enrolling children.
